I was throwing together a rainy day look yesterday and I decided to turn to my list of Looking Lucky trends for inspiration. (AHEM. HINT HINT. Do the Looking Lucky style challenge with me so you can get help thinking of what to wear, too.) I decided to go with lace just because I usually think of lace for “fancy” occasions, not rainy days. And that’s what makes style fun, right? Thinking of new and slightly unexpected ways to wear things. That’s my philosophy, anyway. Feel free to disagree with me (but keep it to yourself…this is MY blog, dammit).

If you’ve started the Looking Lucky challenge, let me know so I can check out your post!

I always get a chuckle when a full-time blogger posts a casual outfit and says it’s her “off-duty” look. Are you a cop? What duty are you off from? In other words what she’s saying is, “This is what I wear when I’m not trying to impress you.”

Well folks, if you were looking for someone who’s never trying to impress you, you came to the right place. Here at Sarah’s Real Life, I have no problem showing you what I wear on a rainy, warmish fall day while running errands in preparation for a dinner of vegetarian chili and pumpkin beertails. Was I on duty or off duty? Well, if my duty was to keep my feet dry and make a delicious meal, then I was definitely ON.

(Oh…If you’re intrigued by the vegetarian chili and pumpkin beertails, check back tomorrow for recipes!)

Where are You, Spring?

springsnow1 springsnow2 springsnow3 springsnow4 springsnow5 springsnow6 springsnow7

A good chunk of the U.S. is under a few inches of snow, and my handsome city of Indianapolis is part of that chunk. We got just under 4″, which is – I imagine – a typical June day in Minnesota, so I can’t complain too much.

Unfortunately, this snow fell at the precise moment my internal calendar told me it should be almost spring.  (Unlike normal women, my biological clock doesn’t tell me to have babies; it just tells me when I should and shouldn’t wear tights.) So while I would really like to not be wearing an extra layer under this chambray, and to not be wearing tights under this skirt, and to be wearing cute wedges instead of fleece socks and Hunters…I’ll do what I have to do for now.

And on a completely different note, I ran out of time to do my normal hair routine yesterday. Normally I use a de-frizzing serum, I separate my hair into 3 layers to straighten it, and I use hairspray to finish. Today I used NO products and ran the straightener through a couple random chunks. Maybe I’m crazy, but I think it looks exactly the same. And that is making me kind of mad. Why have I been wasting my time?!? If someone could please tell me my hair looks bad, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Polka Dots & Tweed

Here we go…the excitement is building. It’s Day 2 of the Take One, Pass it On outfit remix, so I’m repeating this polka dot tank from Friday in a new outfit, and tomorrow you’ll see this cardigan again. If this isn’t the most exciting thing that’s happened to you this week, well, then you probably have at least a moderately interesting life.

If you’re trying to figure out what’s going on, read about the remix challenge here. I know a few other people have jumped on the bandwagon…woot woot!

Hope you peeps have had a good weekend.

20121221-223325.jpgIn a 24-hour period on Thursday, Indianapolis saw 50 degrees, 20 degrees, thunder, rain, snow, and 50+ mph winds. I’m not sure how else to deal with these conditions besides rain boots and half a sweater.

Yes, this is half a sweater. I’m not sure exactly what the designer/manufacturer was going for, but I was intrigued. I guess it was supposed to be like a shoulder warmer slash turtleneck slash short poncho? I got it in an XL (I normally wear an XS) so it fits more like a really big infinity scarf. I feel like I wouldn’t have liked it in my normal size. It would have been too constricting. Anyway, I got this thing a few years ago. Clearly it did not become a trend because I haven’t seen much like it. I don’t wear it very often, but the insane weather on the eve of the “apocalypse” seemed like a good occasion.
