I love doing these “Pin to Real Life” posts because I feel like they go to the essence of what this blog is about. Yes, my blog has an essence. Take a deep breath and you might get a whiff. But seriously…the essence is about how I find styling inspiration (sometimes from my own head, sometimes from other people) and then adapt it to fit my real life. [cue epiphany sound effect – it all makes sense now, doesn’t it?!]

This inspiration for this outfit came from Jenny at Crazy Style Love, and she is crazy fabulous pretty much all the time. She wears things I would never have the lady balls to wear. But then again, she lives in Toronto, and I get the impression that’s a more fashion-forward city than Indianapolis. No offense to my city, but its style is very much sports-based. So if Jenny had come to brunch with me on Saturday in her outfit, she would have looked way overdressed (but still awesome, obviously).

My shorter, less voluminous, skirt is more practical for me, and flats instead of heels seemed more appropriate for the occasion. Finally, I tied my shirt in the front instead of tucking it in because I felt like that added an extra casual touch.

A million thanks to Jenny for inspiring this outfit – I loved it! If you want to see more of the people and outfits that inspire me, follow me on Pinterest!

I guess I should apologize for my bad attitude yesterday. This neverending winter is just  pretty ridiculous and I’m losing my patience! I’m trying to be just a liiiiiittle more reasonable because there are plenty of things I like about cold-weather dressing. To re-motivate myself, I went to my Real-Life Fall/Winter Style Pinterest board and found some outfits I pinned earlier in the season that I could re-create.

First up: this pink and navy outfit from Cathy. I find myself pinning her outfits on a regular basis because (a) her styling choices are adorable and (b) her outfits are so wearable but still fun. As a bonus, she’s a petite, fair-skinned, blue-eyed blond in her late twenties and I happen to know someone else who fits that description who is amazingly cool.

Oh, and sorry about my stripes – they don’t photograph that well. Try not to have a seizure.

When I saw this outfit that Kimberly came up with, it felt so very “me” (well I guess it’s really more “Kimberly” but the point is I liked it), so I plopped a photo over on good ol’ Pinterest. A few days later, I didn’t really have an idea of what to wear, so pin to the rescue!

You can read my tips on using Pinterest for outfit inspiration here, but I’ll clue you in on a big one: pin looks that contain pieces similar to what’s already in your closet. Obviously for this outfit I did a totally different color scheme, but I had all the basic stuff: striped tee, leather vest, coat, plaid scarf, beanie, jeans, and boots. And a dusting of snow around my feet – do I get bonus points for that? It was the mix of patterns and layers I liked, so I wasn’t too worried about replicating the colors. Plus these were just the only color options I had…so there’s that.

If you want to see what other winter looks I’ve been in to recently, you can follow my Pinterest board here!

You see that little strip of snow struggling to stay frozen?! It’s definitely gone by now. Good riddance. We have to melt away the old snow to make room for the new snow that will inevitably come. Sort of like how I have to donate and consign old clothes to make room for the new ones that will inevitably show up in my closet. (I wonder how they get there? It’s a mystery.) Funny enough, taking clothes to the consignment store was one of the errands I ran while wearing this outfit.

And speaking of this outfit, it was inspired by a photo I pinned from Pink Peonies! I already had all the basic elements, so I just needed this unseasonably warm day so I could get away with wearing lighter layers. You can see more of my “Pin to Real Life” outfits here.

I don’t remember exactly what I had planned to wear on Tuesday; all I know is it did not work out. I was crunched for time and didn’t know how/where to start over, and then I had a miraculous pre-coffee stroke of genius: Pin to Real Life is making a comeback! (If you’re just joining us, you can get the low down on Pin to Real Life here.)

I pinned this outfit from Merrick a few days ago because I loved the mix of patterns and textures, plus it was so simple and comfortable. Her printed pants are way cuter than mine, but I did what I could. And I love her addition of yellow flats, but (shockingly) I don’t have any! So I added my yellow with a necklace instead.

Many thanks to Merrick and Pinterest for saving me from going to school in my PJs!

Hey there, lovely readers! Thanks to everyone who has been following my NYC adventures on Instagram. In the meantime, here’s the outfit I wore last week to the Megan & Liz show. Since it just happens to include a couple of new goodies from H&M, this is a good time to remind you that tomorrow is the last day to enter the 50 States of Fashion Contest! Just Instagram a photo of yourself in a killer outfit and tag it with #HMShopOnlineXX (fill in your state’s initials). You could win one of several $250 H&M gift cards, or the grand prize of a $1000 gift card and a trip to NYC. Since I am in NYC right now I can confirm that it’s a fun place to go. So enter away!

Incidentally, this is also a Pin to Real Life outfit! See my inspiration here.

Today I’m taking a day trip to Nashville, Tennessee!

OK, not exactly. But I am doing a guest post for Nashville blogger Jessica at My Here & Now Life! Jessica is that classy broad on the left, and I used her outfit as inspiration for another Pin to Real Life outfit post. Head on over to Nashville (via the interwebs) to see more!

#PinToRealLife Roundup

Four // Five // Six // Seven

Hey guys! Look at all this cute stuff I wore during the Pin to Real Life challenge! In case counting’s not your thing, that’s seven outfits all inspired by my Pinterest board. In case calendars aren’t your thing, that’s a whole week’s worth. [pause for applause] Oh, and I even did a recipe! [pause for oohs, aahs, and more applause]

I found that hitting up my old pins for new ideas was really fun and a pretty easy way to figure out what to wear the next day, so I have a feeling this Pin to Real Life thing will be a regular feature, even if I don’t proclaim an official week again. In other words, please keep sending me your Pin to Real Life links! They make me feel very important and influential in the blogging world, which obviously I am.

Thanks to all the bloggers who joined me last week in recreating looks from their Pinterest boards:

Here it is, folks: the last in a week’s worth of outfits inspired by my Pinterest favorites.

I pinned this outfit from Kendi way back in January (she lives in Texas, where apparently you can bare your legs in the winter without dying immediately – blows my mind). If you read her post – which you should because she’s almost as hilarious as I am – you’ll find out that Kendi actually copied her outfit from a Madewell mannequin. My friend Alanis thinks it’s pretty ironic that now I’m copying her copied outfit. Don’t you think?

Also – and this is super important – if you were still planning on doing a #PinToRealLife outfit soon, I still want to see it! Over the weekend I’ll do a roundup and include links to everyone who played along. So be sure link back to me in your post, and then send me your link – email me or tag me on Twitter or something.

Pin to Real Life Outfit #6

Earlier this spring when I was on the fence about getting a floral blazer, I’m pretty sure it was this pin that put me over the edge. “Oh, it looks good with a striped dress? I’m in.” I had a different color scheme to work with than my inspirer Julia (of Gal Meets Glam) did, but I still love how this came out. Since my dress and blazer were  warm colors instead of cool, I went for a tan belt and shoes instead of black. That’s the story I’m going with anyway. But I also just don’t have a thin black belt.
