This outfit is from last Saturday, when I ran a couple errands and went out to eat for my bro’s birthday. (Girls can be bros. I looked it up in the Bro Code.)
Last weekend, the temperatures took an unexpected dip so I had this big dilemma over what to wear. It was like nothing in my closet was working for me. I wanted to wear something cute and springy because it was the weekend, but my delicate constitution and lack of meaningful body fat told me I should probably cover up. I get whiney when I’m cold, and nobody wants to deal with that.
For some reason my new jean jacket that I thought would go with everything just didn’t look right with this dress. I looked oddly wide. I’m hoping the jacket and I will reconcile soon, but in the meantime I was able to count on my chambray – tied at the waist of course.
So the moral of the story is: If you don’t know what to wear, just stay home. Or wear something like this. You’re welcome.

I’m trying to be better about making impulse purchases. My aim is to only buy things after I’ve thought it through and decided in advance what I really want to add to my closet. But the thing is…I didn’t know until I saw this shirt that it was even an option to have a shirt with rainbow colored carousel animal silhouettes. If I had known that a shirt with rainbow colored carousel animal silhouettes existed, it would have been on my well thought out shopping list and this wouldn’t have been an impulse buy. Also it was on sale.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Guys, can you believe what’s happening right now? I’m celebrating the 1-year anniversary of my blog! My very first post went live on May 29, 2012. What a difference a year makes, huh? I had no idea what I was doing back then. Then again, do I really know what I’m doing now? Not really. I just wear stuff and then put pictures of myself on the internet. Groundbreaking, right? And yet I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Thanks so much to all you lovely readers, old and new. All your comments and likes and follows are the reason I’ve stuck with this little endeavor. Without you, I would have no reason to get dressed every day. I would just go naked, and then I would end up in jail or on a pole. And I really don’t think I would fit in well in either of those situations.
I’ll try to get a giveaway going soon as a more material “thank you.” For now you just have my non-material affection and appreciation. Cool? OK.
Now for your viewing pleasure, a little walk down memory lane. I selected some of my favorite outfits – one from each of the last 12 months – to sum up my journey so far!
I hope you’ll stick with me for another year! There are several ways to keep track of me and my style adventures under the “Follow!” menu at the top of the page (hint hint).
Howdy! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Yes, mine was fabulous! Thanks for asking! I went out for dinner and drinks with my new work peeps on Friday night (when I wore this outfit), then did some shopping on Saturday, followed by a museum date on Sunday. Monday was spent chilling at home in a super sexy outfit consisting of gray sweatpants and a law school t-shirt. Forgot to take photos of that one. Sorry. But this one’s pretty cute, right? I’m so glad I got this jacket. I already have like 3 more outfits dreamed up with this baby, so you better get used to seeing it.

P.S. Since you all were hopefully too busy enjoying your long weekend to keep up with your favorite blog, here’s what you missed:
Friday’s Post: Hi. I’m New Here.
Sunday’s Post: Brights & Beige
Monday’s Post: Vroom Vroom
Indianapolis is a pretty special place to be on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Every year tens of thousands of people come here to see the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. It’s 200 laps totaling 500 miles, taken at speeds well over 150mph.
The drivers come from all over the world to participate in one of the most prestigious events on the IndyCar calendar. And you can’t blame them because the winner gets a pretty sweet cash prize, plus a free jug of milk. This year, Tony Kanaan from Brazil won the race. It was his 12th time in the race but his first win. Good job Tony!
So obviously, you can guess where I was yesterday…
…I was at the Indiana State Museum to see the Eternal James Dean exhibition.
What, you think I want to stand in line for hours, then cram into the bleachers with a bunch of drunk people and watch cars drive around in circles? Puh-lease.
So I decided to go with an equally Hoosier activity, but more classy. In case you were not aware, James Dean hails from Indiana. Incidentally, I learned from the exhibition that James was a big fan of the Indy 500 and car racing. Unfortunately, his passion for driving didn’t turn out too well, but we won’t dwell on that. Instead, how about this fun fact: James had some really random hobbies like conga-drumming and bull fighting.
Also, he was super hot. Honestly, I don’t know why you would want to look at pictures of me right now when you could go watch Rebel Without a Cause instead, but just in case, here’s what I wore. You can also see a couple more photos on Instagram.
But wait, there’s more…Adorable baby duck alert!

Hello friends and frenemies! Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far. Hitting up some Memorial Day sales perhaps? I thought so. Good for you. You deserve it. Even if I don’t know you…I’m sure you deserve it. If you need someone to tell you where the sales are, be sure to follow me on Facebook or Twitter, where I post sale links and promo codes on a regular basis. More importantly, I share other random anecdotes and pictures of stuff. That really wasn’t very convincing but I tried my best.
I thought I’d share this outfit with you today because a neutral cotton dress with healthy doses of pink and yellow will get you through tomorrow whether you’re at work or on a day off. I have the day off but I will probably spend it in my PJs. Not even mad about it.

This week I started a new internship for the summer! It was a tough choice to leave my old internship because I really liked it there, but this one is more up my alley – like it’s the kind of work I can see myself wanting to do for the long term. If I were a witch and had one of those Time-Turners like Hermione, I would keep working at my old internship every day and then repeat the day at my new internship.
And yes, I realize my nerdiness just reached a whole new level. Not only do I want to work 2 different unpaid jobs just so I can learn stuff, I also dropped a Harry Potter reference on you. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. But don’t inhale.
So this is what I wore for my first day at the new job. I was looking for an outfit that would give everyone a preview of the many fabulous outfits they’ll see on me this summer, but without making too big of a statement before I knew how everyone else dressed. I also avoided talking about Harry Potter or how sometimes I put a sweater on my cat. Gotta feel out the crowd first.

Not to sound too self-satisfied, but I really like every outfit I wear. If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t wear it. But there are some outfits I really love. (It’s kinda like: I like my Sketchers, but I love my Prada backpack – name that movie!)
This outfit was one I loved! I just got this utility jacket after looking high and low (but mostly low because I’m short and cheap) for the perfect one. This baby’s just the right shape and weight to wear all day, so rather than wait for the weekend to wear it with jeans, I wore it to work yesterday mixed with this floral pencil skirt. It was right up my alley because there’s nothing I love more than an unexpected mix! Except maybe a kitten washing its face. I mean you can’t beat that.
Jacket // Skirt (on sale) // similar Shoes // vintage Coach bag via eBay // Lipstick “Romantic”
I could not tell you how or why the idea entered my head, but a couple weeks ago I decided I wanted to find a pre-loved Coach crossbody bag. Thanks to good ol’ Electronic Bay Dot Com, I got this one for $45. It’s really pretty easy to find an old Coach bag for cheap on eBay. There are tons of people selling them for reasonable prices, and new ones are always being added. Just be sure to look at the photos and descriptions carefully to avoid getting a bag with more than regular wear and tear. And decide on your budget ahead of time so you don’t get sucked in to the excitement of a bidding war!
Obviously this bag is not in pristine condition, but I like that it looks well loved. It also means the leather is super soft and broken in. Doesn’t it look like a cool, beat-up vintage suitcase? But smaller. A suitcase for a meerkat maybe. Try searching for “vintage meerkat suitcase” on eBay and see what happens. Then report back because I want to know.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the rest of the outfit, I wore this to work yesterday, then took the jacket off to run some errands. Specifically, I bought a new vacuum. I needed it to clean up meerkat fur (OK, house cat fur).
similar Skirt (on sale), or check Target store // similar Shoes (on sale) // similar Jacket // Nails
You know how when you were a little kid and you got new shoes, you were so excited you wore them out of the store and watched your feet as you walked? That love of shopping never really wore off on me. That’s probably a bad thing, but lets look at it as cute and romantic instead of narcissistic and obsessive, K? Great.
I don’t normally wear things out of the store anymore, but I often wear them the very next day. This dress, you guys…I bought it in February. As in 3 months ago.
This dress is a piece from the Prabal Gurung for Target collection that I bought on the day it came out when it was still going to be negative a million degrees for the foreseeable future. As you know, I have nothing against winterizing dresses, but there was just something about this one (maybe the fact that the colors remind me of a watermelon) that made me want to debut it without the distraction of tights or a cardigan.
Well I think it was worth the wait because this was the perfect dress to wear to the Broad Ripple Art Fair over the weekend. The only downside (for you guys) is that the dress is no longer available, but I did my best to link you to similar options below 🙂
