I was feeling lazy on Friday morning, and I embraced my inner student and wore a college tee, jeans, and boat shoes to my Bar review class. Yes, I’m a normal person. Once in a while. But by Friday night I was back to my abnormal self and was itching to put on some real clothes to go out to dinner downtown.

But still being a mostly lazy person, I had absolutely no motivation to pick out something awesome to wear. While procrastinating getting ready, I caught up on some of my favorite blogs, and happened to see this post from Kimberly at Penny Pincher Fashion. Boom: Inspiration! Yellow tank, white skirt, block heeled sandals. Done, done, and done. Thanks, Kim. You rock.

Oh, and if these pictures look a little grainy, it’s because this genius forgot to bring her big girl camera so we had to use the good ol’ iPhone. After such a miraculously inspired outfit, I wasn’t about to miss out on the chance to document it!

Have a great Sunday – and HAPPY JUNE!

You know what makes you warm and happy? A sunny yellow cashmere cardigan. You know what makes you even warmer and happier? The actual sun. I wore this on Tuesday and I was pretty pissed to wake up to freezing temperatures again. Wearing something yellow and cozy was the best option.

But by the time I put together this post, it was sunny and almost 70 degrees. I actually SAT OUTSIDE and edited these photos (in between classes, of course). I looked at the forecast, and the future looked glorious. So Tuesday’s problems pretty much melted away (literally).

Well, friends…have a great rest of your weekend and  – if you celebrate it – a great Easter. I tip my bunny ears to you.

Thing that makes me happy: The fact that lots of fun people are joining the Looking Lucky challenge. And one of those fun people is going to win a $15 gift card to Lucky B Boutique soon! Remember all you have to do to get in on this action is wear one of the 10 trends (like floral, which I’m rocking today) and post a pic on Instagram. Get the details here.

Thing that doesn’t make me happy: Trying to take my own outfit photos in the middle of a cold, rainless hurricane. What, you think there’s no such thing as a cold, rainless hurricane? In April? In Indiana? Well all kinds of people believe in God even though they’ve never seen her, so I don’t know why I can’t believe in cold, rainless hurricanes when I just survived one. These were the select few photos when my bangs weren’t pointing directly east and/or I wasn’t making a really pissed off face.

Well it’s still freezing. The best I can do is wear all of the bright, springy colors I can find. It’s like that old saying…When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Or wear a lemon sweater. You gotta stay positive.

Just kidding. It’s cold and everything is the worst. If anyone hands me lemons, I’ll be making them into something much stronger than lemonade.

So I was heating up my lunch at school earlier this week and a girl I didn’t know walked up and asked, “Are you Sarah?” Turns out she’s a first-year student who got paired up with me for some help studying. How did she know who I was? “They told me you wear a lot of hats.”

Really? When did I become Hat Girl? I mean I don’t wear hats that often, do I?

I’m so glad I have an internship this semester because it means I get to show you some office-appropriate outfits! Oh, and also because I get to learn stuff. Obviously.

Law school has really spoiled me style-wise because I can pretty much wear whatever I want to class. But just because I can’t wear leather leggings or cute baseball caps to work doesn’t mean I’m not going to have a little fun. I’m a big fan of finding traditional “business casual” pieces that have something unique about them – like a button-up shirt with an embellished collar, a cardigan in cheery lemon yellow, a pencil skirt with a faux leather waist band, and low-heeled pumps with a thick ankle strap.

(I kept my promise from yesterday to go back to talking about clothes! By the way, the stories you guys shared with me were AMAZING. I was cracking up. I totally win for the funniest readers.)

I decided to take the Black Out Style challenge to the extreme and bust out two super bright colors in the hopes they would play nicely off each other. I think it worked. And before you say anything, I know these jeans look black but they’re actually just a super dark wash. Just trust me. (If you’re confused, you can read more about the Black Out challenge here.)

I wore this on Sunday for brunch and a movie, and at brunch someone mentioned that my hat looked extra bright with this sweater. I just love it when people get me.

Also, American Hustle is pretty great. Not a huge surprise when pretty much everyone in the cast is nominated for an Oscar. I believe Amy Adams got an extra nomination for best acting by cleavage in a starring role, right? Perhaps I’m mistaken…somebody check me on that.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

beetlejuice1 beetlejuice2 beetlejuice3 beetlejuice4 beetlejuice5 beetlejuice6

Who would have thought putting horizontal stripes around your ass could be so slimming? No one with eyes, that’s for sure. This skirt is magical. I’m so glad I got it. I mean I’ve only had it 2 months and this is the fourth time I’ve worn it. This is shaping up to be an impressive cost-per-wear!

On another note, I normally don’t like to wear yellow and black together because I feel like it makes me look like a bumble bee. But this particular outfit felt more like Beetlejuice than bumble bee, so I thought it worked. Don’t know if you heard, but Beetlejuice-inspired fashion is totally in for spring. You’re welcome.

Sarah v. Mother Nature: Round 2

pinkskirt1 pinkskirt2 pinkskirt3 pinkskirt4 pinkskirt5

I thought maybe I could coax spring out of hiding if I wore my new bright pink linen skirt. Perhaps you can tell by my matching bright pink nose, but my plan did not work. It was 28 degrees. That one picture where I’m smiling is really just an attempt to hide my despair. I’m thinking about how great it will be when I’m not outside anymore and I can be happy again.

Sigh. Mother Nature wins another round.

And the Oscar Goes to…

oscars1 oscars2 oscars3 oscars4 oscars5 oscars6 oscars7 oscars8

On Sunday I went to an Oscars party. I always watch the Oscars, but I’m pretty sure it was the first time in my life I’ve left my house to do so. It’s kind of like the first Christmas you spend away from home…You’re nervous it won’t be quite the same, but it still turns out to be fun. Because it’s Christmas. I mean the Oscars. Anywho.

My goal with this outfit was to be equal parts “it’s a special occasion” and “I’m going to sit on a couch eating junk food and judging people.” Sounds like a good occasion for the faux leather leggings, doesn’t it? I thought so. And because I’m still doing the Take One remix, I repeated this necklace from the day before.

Speaking of the Oscars, did anyone else notice a glaring lack of necklaces and lipstick on the red carpet? It was all bare sternums and bare lips. If you looked at the pictures above (and 90% of the pictures I’ve ever posted on this blog), you can probably guess how I feel about that. Lame.
