Hey everyone, and welcome to fall! I guess the Equinox just happened? Not Equinox like the gym, but Equinox like that thing where the Earth goes around the sun and then it’s another season? I don’t know. I’m not an expert on astronomy or meteorology, but I am an expert on cute sweatshirts. I bought this particular cute sweatshirt earlier in the month, but I saved it until it got little more…you know…autumnal.

P.S. If you’re a fellow blogger, let’s start off the new season with a “Pin Party.” Pin a photo from this post (the first one is my personal favorite), then leave me a comment with a link to your blog, and I’ll pin one of your photos, too. I’ve never understood the whole “follow for follow” thing on social media, but “share for share” seems much more fun and productive. Let’s give it a try.
I think I made it pretty clear to everyone that I was at the beach last week (in this post and this one and in a lot of Instagrams), but I don’t know if I made it clear which beach. We were at Nags Head in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I grew up in North Carolina, so to me, “beach” can only mean the Outer Banks. I’ve heard Florida also has a few beaches, but I see no need to check.
Nags Head is just down the road from the spot where the Wright brothers took their first successful airplane flights in 1903. There’s a memorial and visitor center there now, so we stopped to check it out before heading to the airport for our flight home. When you’re about to get on a plane in a few hours, what better time to see where it all started, right?
So this outfit was my nerdy tourist/goodbye beach/travel look.
Do you see that? It’s aviation…reflected in my aviator sunglasses. Is your mind blown? Because it should be.

This outfit is actually from a couple weeks ago – the last day of my Bar review course. The day before, I had put absolutely no effort into my appearance and I was in a total funk all day. So the next day I wore this. I’ll be the first to admit I had absolutely no one to impress; all my fellow Bar-preppers were stressed and too worried about themselves to notice what I was wearing (I’m just assuming this based on the fact that I was stressed and didn’t notice what anyone else was wearing). But darn it if I didn’t feel a million times better about life.
However, now that we’re only a week out from exam time, please don’t ask me how I feel about life currently. K thanks.

Here’s where you’ve seen these outlook improvers before: It’s the Real Life Remix…
I did my hair like this last week sometime and someone commented on Instagram that it looked really good. So I thought I’d do a tutorial on how to do…
a, like, totally casual updo
Step 1: Wake up at least 10 minutes late.
Step 2: Jump in the shower and get your hair wet. Wash it, don’t wash it. I couldn’t care less.
Step 3: Towel dry. Really rough it up the way you’re not supposed to if you don’t want frizz.
Step 4: Pick up your brush. Now laugh at it and put it back down.
Step 5: Flip your head over and craft yourself some sort of bun-type thing secured only with one elastic. If it looks like crap, too bad. You only get one chance.
Step 6: Spray head with hairspray so you can feel a little like you’re an adult.
Ta da! You’re beautiful.
Warning: Do not attempt in winter.

It’s Thursday, May 8, 2014. What does that mean for you? Maybe nothing. But for me, it’s the day I’m taking my very last law school exam – I’M DONE!!!
And what better way to commemorate three overwhelming years than with two underwhelming outfits? Yup.
Both of these are outfits I wore to take exams, hence the pretty simple sweatshirt + jeans equation (that’s what regular kids wear to school…I think). Don’t worry; I’ll be back to my usual fabulousness soon enough. But first I have to wear a big black robe and a funny hat with a tassel. 🙂

Ah, l’amour. They say it’s all you need. Except during finals week. During finals week you mainly need coffee and motivation. In that order.
This outfit was what I wore for one of my out-of-the-house study sessions. In case you’re keeping track, 2 down, 2 to go! The finish line is in sight.

It has been a very silver white winter, and it needs to MELT INTO F$%&ING SPRING ALREADY. I knew it was coming, but waking up to cold and snow yesterday was still so hard after 2 days in a row of 60+ degrees. And it wasn’t just snow – it was huge flakes of really wet snow. And it was windy. So walking outside was kind of like being in a snowball fight with Buddy the Elf. It’s mid-March. #snoverit
Even though the weather was totally inappropriate, at least this top kinda looks like it has cute little snowflakes on it. I do love a theme. But this top is still SUPPOSED to be for SPRING. I want to wear it on its own with a floral pencil skirt and nude pumps. One day soon…

So the Take One, Pass it On challenge was definitely a challenge today. Review yesterday’s outfit if you please. The pieces of my outfit were: black sweater, mint pants, pink pumps, and a bow bracelet. I had already worn the sweater twice, so that was ruled out. I wasn’t going to repeat the shoes because I was going to class, and I’m not about to walk up and down stairs with a heavy backpack in 3″ heels. I’m just not. And the bracelet seemed like cheating.
As you can see, I was left with one option. I was skeptical of wearing these semi-dressy pants to school, so I dressed it down the best way I knew: with a sweatshirt.
And that’s why I think the Take One challenge is so great. I really like this outfit and I never would have put it together without this crazy remix thing. (Do you hear that? …It’s the sound of me tooting my own horn.)

This is the part where I’m supposed to say something cutesy like: “This is my go-to outfit for running errands!” Maybe I’d follow it up with a “lolz” (what does the Z stand for?!) or an emoticon. But alas, my “go-to outfit” for running errands is usually jeans, boat shoes, and an Indy Law t-shirt. It’s nerd chic, minus the chic part.
Still – once in a while, I find that taking an extra couple minutes to pick out a real outfit and apply red lipstick makes me more productive. When I look frumpy, I just want to get my stuff done as quickly as possible and then get home. When I wore this outfit, I actually had a pretty good day! After my trip to the post office, I hung out at Starbucks and wrote a cover letter for a summer internship, did some blog maintenance, and answered a few emails. I can do those things at home, but no one makes me a delicious nonfat latte at home, which means that…I can’t really do those things at home. When I’m rich, I will have a Starbucks in my house. Just kidding – we all know I’ll spend all my money on shoes.
By the way, I included that photo of a snowy landscape in an effort to convince myself that the beautiful scene was worth nearly freezing to death taking outfit photos (but it wasn’t).

I know I said I don’t wear sweats in public, but this is pretty darn close. Sometimes, though, a sweatshirt and leggings can be OK outside the house if (1) you’re doing something super casual, (2) there is no velour anywhere on your body, (3) there are no words or symbols across your butt, (4) you cover your bits and pieces, (5) you play with fun colors or otherwise add visual interest, and (6) you wear something other than sneakers or flip-flops on your feet.
As you can see, it’s a complex rule, but I am clearly following it. If the fashion police issue a citation, I will be prepared with my defense. For the record, I know this is not exactly my usual pulled together look, but I wanted to be true to my blog’s raison d’etre and show you what I really wear. This was another exam-taking outfit so comfort was the name of the game. I’ll be back to real outfits soon, I swear! (But if you want to see how I styled this same top with real pants, see here and here.)

P.S. Howdya like that little dance move at the end? Why, thank you. I’m classically trained. No…really.
