Sometimes when I see an outfit blog where the clothes go just a little too perfectly with the background, I assume the whole thing was editorialized. If I saw this post on another blog, that’s probably what I would think. But cross my heart and hope to die, I did indeed wear this on Saturday (for our end-of-the-year law review banquet), and I had no idea that just a block away from the venue was this mural. When I saw it, I just knew this was the universe making things work for me. (The universe doesn’t have anything better to do. For a while it was fighting scientists on the whole “Pluto’s not a planet anymore” thing, but it gave up. After the universe had some laughs watching the Bill Nye v. Ken Ham debate, its schedule really opened up and now it’s just working on smaller projects like making cool blog photo shoots happen.)

Since this is my sixth Looking Lucky post and we’re just about halfway through the month, I also want to take a second to remind everyone about this challenge and how to participate. The short version is: The Looking Lucky challenge gives you 10 trends to work into your outfits this month. If you’re a blogger and you do all 10, you’ll be entered to win a $75 gift card (to the store where I got this dress)! Even if you’re not a blogger but you’re on Instagram, you can enter to win one of the weekly $15 gift cards just by posting a photo of yourself wearing any of the 10 trends. I’ve loved seeing everybody’s posts so far! If you haven’t joined in yet, there’s still plenty of time. Get more details in this post.

Check it out…I’m officially halfway done with the Looking Lucky style challenge. This is my #5 out of the 10 trends. In case you’re taking the challenge for a spin and you weren’t sure what “local love” meant, here’s an example. Just show a little pride for your hometown or home state (or your current town/state, if different). Wear something from a local brand or boutique, or even a local jewelry artist or something. If you’re not feeling quite so hipster, just rock a t-shirt with a sports team or college.

For bonus points (which aren’t actually worth anything), wear your “local love” outfit to eat at a local restaurant. I wore this last Sunday to go out for pizza and beer with a bunch of my fellow law review nerds. I’ve been having fun wearing heels on weekends recently…when you think about it, a day when you don’t have much to do is pretty much the perfect day to wear uncomfortable shoes.

Thanks to everyone who’s been joining in on the challenge this month and sharing your looks on Instagram! Remember there are multiple giveaways in conjunction with this challenge, so you’re definitely gonna want to jump on this bandwagon!

Announcing the April “Looking Lucky” Style Challenge (and giveaway)!

style challenge, outfit ideas, indianapolis boutiques, indianapolis style blogger, givewaway

You know what? It’s been too long since we did a style challenge, don’t you think? I sure do. Let’s do one.

This one is really pretty easy…and fun! My partner in crime style who helped me come up with this idea was Brandi, the owner of Lucky B Boutique here in Indianapolis. Between the two of us, we came up with a list of 10 current trends. The challenge? Interpret each of these trends and use them as “prompts” for 10 different outfits throughout the month of April. The idea isn’t to look like a trend whore, but to mix these trends in with classics and other favorites in your closet.

The best part: If you participate in the Looking Lucky style challenge, a couple of you might be looking extra lucky by the end of it because Lucky B Boutique is going to hand out a few gift cards to their store (which can be used online too)!

Here’s how to participate and be entered to win:

For anyone [with Instagram]:

Whenever you wear an outfit with one of the 10 trends, just post a photo of your look on Instagram. In the caption, say which trend it is and tag: @sarahsreallife @Shop_LuckyB #LookingLucky. Then, Lucky B will pick a favorite each week of April to win a $15 gift card (that’s 4 winners)!

For bloggers:

One blogger has the chance to win a $75 gift card (woot woot)! For this prize, you must complete all 10 trend challenges. And that means 10 different outfits…no cramming 4 of them into one day or anything tricksy like that. You can do them in any order, and you have the whole month to finish! Document your outfits on your fabulous blog, and please link your readers back to this post so they can learn about the challenge and giveaways too. Once you’ve finished all 10, just shoot me an email and tell me where to find them. After April 30, the big winner will be chosen!

Oh, and bloggers, don’t forget to post your Looking Lucky outfits on Instagram too, because you are eligible for the $15 prizes in addition to the $75.

So to recap, I’ll do the math for you. That’s THIRTY days to make TEN outfits, and FIVE winners of shopping money. I have no idea what kind of crazy person wouldn’t do this challenge. Have fun!! Anyone in the world can enter, just keep in mind if you get one of the Lucky B Boutique gift cards, shipping outside the US will cost more.

Last but not least, Brandi is also offering 15% off any $30 purchase from LuckyBBoutique.com during the month of April. Just use the code LOOKINGLUCKY.

The “Pin to Real Life” Style Challenge!

After the epic success of my last challenge (surprisingly, I’m not being sarcastic), I couldn’t wait to do another one. A ton of other bloggers joined in last time, and I’m hoping for just as many this time! You hear that? I’m talking to YOU.

So what’s the challenge? I’m glad you asked.

It’s called the “Pin to Real Life” Style Challenge!

How does it work? You are so full of great questions today! Well, I don’t know about everyone else, but I use Pinterest almost daily, and I often pin outfits from other blogs I follow. So next week, I’m challenging myself to look through my outfit inspiration board on Pinterest and recreate my own version of a pinned outfit each day. It doesn’t have to be an exact replica – the idea is just to be inspired by a look I like and then find things in my own closet that mimic whatever it is that I liked about the original.

I hope everyone likes this idea! I look forward to sharing my “pinspired” looks with you all starting Monday.

Join me, won’t you?

These things are always more fun with friends. If you’re a blogger and a Pinterest user, why not post a Pinterest-inspired outfit? You can do it just once, or you can go for a whole week with me. Even if you don’t have a blog and you want to try recreating an outfit or 2 from your own Pinterest board (or mine), share it on the SRL Facebook page!

If you’ve never used Pinterest for outfit inspiration, check out this article for tips on getting started.

If you are a fellow blogger and you decide to do the Pin to Real Life Style Challenge, I would be happy to share your link with my readers! All I ask is that: (1) Somewhere in your post, mention that I started the challenge and link back to this post, and (2) Send me your link somehow (Twitter, email, comment, etc.) so I know where to find you.
