I just got this windbreaker-esque jacket on the clearance rack at H&M for $10. Did I need it? No. But did it give me a flashback to 4th grade when I sported a black and white Reebok windbreaker suit? Yes. Don’t act like you didn’t have one too. They were so cool in the mid-90s. I really wanted to wear this with a smiley face t-shirt and some peace sign earrings, but alas those things left my closet a long time ago. The best I could do was a side ponytail.
For the full effect, may I recommend rereading this post while listening to one or more of the following songs:
- Gangsta’s Paradise, Coolio
- Waterfalls, TLC
- All I Wanna Do, Sheryl Crow
- The Sign, Ace of Base
- Always Be My Baby, Mariah Carey
- Kiss From a Rose, Seal
What’s your favorite mid-90s song/band? Let me know in the comments (and you can say something about my outfit if the mood strikes you).

This remix thing is getting easier as it goes along. It’s actually fun, which is good because that’s why I started it in the first place. The repeat item today is this necklace. I know…not a huge statement, but tomorrow you’ll see my repeat of this shirt, which is far from subtle. By the way, I love this shirt because it kind of feels and looks like pajamas. And as much as I love fancy clothes, I also really love pajamas. Except my real pajamas look nothing like this. They actually look like 12-year old t-shirts and Target sweatpants, accessorized with cat fur and a headband. My allure is out of this world, I tell you.

The Nordstrom fairy brought me some gifts this week, including this baseball jacket and these bracelets! Such a nice little fairy. I actually saw this stuff in-store but I ordered it online so I could get a visit from the fairy. Or because I like to give myself a little time after I see stuff I like to talk it over with my closet. “Closet, do you think you could be friends with a lace jacket and some cool spikey bracelets?” My closet said yes. So here we are.
Seriously though, I thought this jacket was so cool. I like that it’s sporty in structure but completely unsporty in material. Which is appropriate, because I myself might appear to be fit and athletic, yet I have absolutely no skill at any sport.
I have a funny story about my baseball skills, actually. I remember in middle school gym class when we had to play baseball (or wiffle ball, whatever it was) for the first time. I went up to bat and couldn’t hit a ball to save my life. Then the gym teacher asked if I was left-handed. I’m not. He said that was the problem…I was facing the wrong way! So I turned around and hit right-handed.
Made no difference whatsoever.
