This was the last outfit I wore before heading out to the beach – my friends Christie and Amy got married on Saturday, so I delayed my vacation by a day so I could be there. That’s how much I like them. (Take note, ladies.)
It only seems appropriate I tell you the story of how I met Christie and Amy, and I’ll try to do it in a way that is less embarrassing for Christie. So they moved to the Indianapolis area last spring, and they went to the Pride Parade. It just so happens that I was there too, and being the Instagram addict that I am, I posted a couple photos using the #indypride hashtag. Christie looked through that hashtag and saw my photos, which led her to my profile, which led her to my blog. From there she figured out that (a) I live in Indianapolis, and (b) I’m obviously super awesome.
Running the strong risk of coming off as a total creepster, Christie emailed me (she told me later that she read the email over and over and made Amy read it too before sending). I guess I was feeling nice that day, because I emailed her back. Not long after, the 4 of us met up for brunch, and the rest is history!
So if I get nothing else worthwhile out of this little adventure that is blogging, at least I have 2 great new friends. You can make fun of hashtags all you want, but without them, I probably never would have met Christie and Amy. They’re both fantastic people, and they make a fantastic couple. A million congratulations to the newlyweds, and thanks for stalking me!

So I graduated law school several days ago. Did I mention that was happening? Maybe like 100 times over the past month? Yep. I was so busy sharing my post-graduation Chicago vacation outfit photos that I forgot to show you what I wore on the big day! So here it is.
This skirt came in the mail a couple days before graduation and I decided it would be a good option. It’s got this kind of youthful but elegant look to it. You know…like something a brand new lawyer would wear. 😉
These shoes were not the most comfortable things to stand around in for two hours while we were waiting for the processional, but my gown was so freaking huge I felt like I needed the extra height. Can we talk about the cap and gown for a second? Great. Thanks. There was one size gown for everyone up to 200 pounds. I don’t know if you can tell from all the photos you’ve seen of me, but I weigh somewhat less than 200 pounds. They asked for my height (which is 5’3″, by the way) but I’m not sure it made a difference. I was essentially wearing an inflated, depressing looking maxi dress. And that silly hat. I put mine on ahead of time, but it looked so ridiculous I thought I must have done it wrong. So I took it off and waited until I checked in at the ceremony location so I could see everyone else’s. Nope. It’s really supposed to look like that. Sigh. I know there’s historical significance to these stupid outfits, but someone really needs to update the graduation look. Like maybe Diane von Furstenburg.
OK, after all that complaining, you probably want to see what I looked like, don’t you? If you must:
The oversized look is “in,” right?

Ah, l’amour. They say it’s all you need. Except during finals week. During finals week you mainly need coffee and motivation. In that order.
This outfit was what I wore for one of my out-of-the-house study sessions. In case you’re keeping track, 2 down, 2 to go! The finish line is in sight.

So. You might have noticed one of the 10 trends for the Looking Lucky challenge is “cropped.” Originally it was cropped tops specifically, but then we just went with cropped because it gives you a little more room for interpretation. Because I’m an overachiever, I decided to rock a cropped top AND pants at the same time on Saturday.
For those of you afraid of the crop top trend, let this be a lesson to you. The crop tops of 2014 are not worn the same way the crop tops of 2001 were. It’s not about showing off your belly ring anymore (for the record, I never had one). I mean depending on your age, the occasion, and how many sit-ups you do, I guess you could still show a bunch of midriff and get away with it. But if you’re over 20, aren’t going clubbing in Miami, and can’t remember the last time you did a sit-up (unless you count time time you had to stretch really far to reach the bag of chips at the end of your bed), you still don’t have to cast off the crop top trend. If you layer it over a longer shirt like I’m doing here, you don’t have to show even a sliver of skin if you don’t want to. If you’re slightly more daring, I also love the idea of wearing a crop top with a high waisted skirt, so you just see a hint of skin right above the waist. I’m definitely going to try that some weekend when it warms up a little more! I might do a few sit-ups before I do it though…just to be safe.
So what do you think about crop tops now? Have I convinced you? If the idea intrigues you but you don’t want to spend money on one, you can always temporarily “hem” a shirt with fabric tape! Man, I am just full of helpful tips today. You’re welcome.

Happy weekend, folks! I’m really excited because my family is visiting for 3 days and I’m ready to show them a good time. You can follow along with our adventures on Instagram. Because if you don’t Instagram it, it didn’t happen.
In the meantime, I wanted to share a handful of outfits – some recent, some older – that I didn’t get around to posting. What is everyone else up to this weekend?!

Indianapolis is a pretty special place to be on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Every year tens of thousands of people come here to see the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. It’s 200 laps totaling 500 miles, taken at speeds well over 150mph.
The drivers come from all over the world to participate in one of the most prestigious events on the IndyCar calendar. And you can’t blame them because the winner gets a pretty sweet cash prize, plus a free jug of milk. This year, Tony Kanaan from Brazil won the race. It was his 12th time in the race but his first win. Good job Tony!
So obviously, you can guess where I was yesterday…
…I was at the Indiana State Museum to see the Eternal James Dean exhibition.
What, you think I want to stand in line for hours, then cram into the bleachers with a bunch of drunk people and watch cars drive around in circles? Puh-lease.
So I decided to go with an equally Hoosier activity, but more classy. In case you were not aware, James Dean hails from Indiana. Incidentally, I learned from the exhibition that James was a big fan of the Indy 500 and car racing. Unfortunately, his passion for driving didn’t turn out too well, but we won’t dwell on that. Instead, how about this fun fact: James had some really random hobbies like conga-drumming and bull fighting.
Also, he was super hot. Honestly, I don’t know why you would want to look at pictures of me right now when you could go watch Rebel Without a Cause instead, but just in case, here’s what I wore. You can also see a couple more photos on Instagram.
But wait, there’s more…Adorable baby duck alert!

OK, full disclosure. There aren’t any puppies in this post. Just sunshine and flowers. I usually don’t take photos in this spot in the afternoon for the very reason that the sun shines through the railing and trees, making lots of crazy shadows. But there’s something about the first sunny, 80 degree day of the spring/summer that makes a girl want to put on a floral skirt and pose awkwardly with her tripod on her balcony. Am I right, ladies?
So who cares that sometimes the sun’s bouncing off my skin in all its super white glory, and 2 inches away another part of me is hiding in the shadows? It’s times like this I’m really glad I made my blog about real life and not perfection. Not that I’m not perfect. It’s just the sun that’s flawed. No amount of Clinique will get rid of those sun spots.

I’m both worried and excited about being the most brightly dressed lawyer in the room one day. Right now I’m practicing being one of the most brightly dressed law students in the room. It’s valuable real-life experience.
Last Friday I went to a recognition banquet for students (like me) who are tutoring struggling first-year students. The event was at a fancy schmancy members-only club on the top floor of one of the big business towers in downtown Indianapolis. The invitation said business casual, which obviously would include this outfit.
But I’ll be damned if I wasn’t one of the only people wearing a color other than navy or black. This is why people think lawyers/law students are boring – it has nothing to do with how we drop words like “liability” into everyday conversation and call the Supreme Court Justices by their first names like we’re close personal friends with them.
Thank goodness I was there, right? I’m like a color-injecting superhero. What should my superhero name be? This is your task for the day: to come up with a name that fully expresses both my knack for colorfulness and my legal prowess. Shouldn’t be difficult.

Another day, another Robin Scherbatsky reference.
I really love wearing heels with jeans, but I don’t get to do it much. I wear plenty of jeans on school days, when it would be silly and impractical to wear heels; and I wear plenty of heels on work days, when I’m not allowed to wear jeans. Sure, there are weekends, but I’m a big ol’ nerd who stays home studying on weekends. Except when I go to a fun little fashion show at the mall.
Now, normally I don’t wear heels to the mall, but a fashion show – even if it’s just at my local Macy’s – is the best excuse I have to sport a fun outfit like this. And if you didn’t get enough of an opportunity to drool over these shoes last time I wore them, consider this your second chance.
Oh my gosh, how did this photo get in here?! No big deal, just a shot of me and my buddy Nick Verreos. If you didn’t catch my interview with him last week, be sure to check it out here. He was a hoot!
