Every once in a while I dig the whole monochromatic thing. Yesterday was one of those days, apparently. I felt like a had a brand new dress just by doubling up on the navy. And speaking of colors, if it looks like my hair’s a little darker, that’s because it is. Maybe I’m just looking forward to fall, but I felt like switching it up a little. I wore this hair and navy out for a pizza date last night.

That’s all for today, folks! I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, then I’m leaving for the BEACH! My mind is already on the weekend, hence the lack of the fantastic wit to which you have become so accustomed. Hang in there; it’ll be back.

Some people have a sort of “go to” formula or uniform for getting dressed. I should probably get one of those. Because I don’t dress well under pressure. On Sunday we got up early for “members only” hour at the zoo, and I was a dummy and hadn’t planned an outfit the night before. It took me like 11 tries to come up with this…yes, this groundbreaking jeans + shirt combo. Is it even worth showing to you? I don’t know, but it’s what I wore in real life, so here we are.

Beauty & the Booze

Over the weekend I had my first manicure in more than 3 years. My last one was horrible and left me with a bloody cuticle. Yes, I said bloody. So what made me willing to give manicures another try? Well, I got an invitation to try out the Beauty Bar at Geist, a salon that has a liquor license – the first of its kind in Indiana, apparently! So you can go get a manicure, pedicure, haircut, whatever…all while sipping a glass of wine or a cocktail. (In case you’re wondering, the people giving you the manicure, pedicure, or haircut do NOT get tipsy while they serve you. Probably a good call.)

My appointment was in the morning, so I went with a mimosa. Vitamin C, yo.

I’m very happy to report that my manicure at the Beauty Bar was 1000% better than my last one. And that’s not just the booze talking. I told the nail technician (is that what they’re called?) my horror story, so she was very gentle on my sensitive cuticles. She also gave a kick-ass hand massage! Very relaxing.

The color I chose was “Mint Convertible” by CND Vinylux. It claims to last 7 days. We shall see! I’m on day 4 now and it still looks as great as it did day-of. Here’s the finished product…

Besides the great manicure and cocktail, I also liked that this place didn’t feel like a typical salon. They’re usually so clinical-looking, you know? And they smell like weird chemicals. This place was super cute and more inviting than my own apartment.

You know what all this means? The Beauty Bar gets the coveted SASS (Sarah’s Awesome Stamp of Satisfaction)! I don’t hand these out easily, folks. So for my central Indiana folks, I definitely recommend a visit to the Beauty Bar. I’m sure it would be a great place for a bridal party to get their nails done together. You can also get massages and waxing; see the full list of services here.

Disclosure: I was given a complimentary manicure and cocktail in exchange for a review. However, all opinions are my own, as I have not figured out how to have anyone else’s opinions.

Can one ever really have too many striped shirts? I think one cannot. But can one sound like a douche bag when one uses the word “one” too much? Yes, one can.

On most days during the past 3 weeks, “getting ready for the day” has consisted of a face wipe, a new layer of deodorant, and the same sweats I’d been in for the past 24 hours. This might negatively affect your opinion of me, but I’m just keepin’ it real.

Last weekend I decided to actually get ready for the day, and Kristin and I had a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I brought along my flash cards and book of practice questions and actually got some decent work done! It was a much needed break, even if it wasn’t really a break.

And in case you hadn’t heard, pineapples are the new lemons.

I have a little something extra in today’s outfit post – a perfume review! It’s awkward, right? It’s like, “Hey guys, look at how great I smell!” Why doesn’t the internet have a scratch ‘n’ sniff function yet? I mean, someone in China should have figured that out by now.

FrangranceNet provided me with 2 perfumes of my choosing to review, and I went with Versace Yellow Diamond and Bvlgari Omnia Coral. I thought about it, and I figure the best way to tell you about these lovely scents is to describe them in my totally unprofessional vernacular. If you want to hear about top notes and bottom notes and eighth notes and whatnot, you can find that in FragranceNet’s product descriptions!

Here’s what you need to know. What I look for in a perfume happens to be the same as what I look for in a white wine: fruity and floral, but light and not too sweet. Both of these scents totally fit the bill! They’re actually pretty similar. The Bvlgari one is a little lighter, so if you have a very sensitive nose and you’re looking for a nice summery scent, I recommend it!

Since FragranceNet was so cool to send me these sweet sprays, I should mention that their prices are well below retail if you feel like buying any new perfumes (hint, hint).

As for the outfit, this was what I wore on the 4th of July. I’m a terrible patriot – not only can I not be bothered to wear red, white, and blue, but I’m also wearing Italian perfume. Whoops.

Little girls like ice cream. Big girls like bling. So I’ve got the best of both worlds! But if I had to choose one, let’s be honest…I’d choose ice cream. We have way more history.

Have a great week, everyone. I have a couple recent outfits that I really loved that I’ll share throughout the week. Follow me on Bloglovin’ or Facebook so you don’t miss out!

You might be thinking, “Sarah, didn’t you just wear that top and necklace together really recently?” You would be correct. And actually I wore this outfit a week ago, so the space between the repeats was even smaller than you think. If you weren’t thinking this looked familiar, then forget everything I just said.

I’m happy to report that there are no freezing temperatures in our extended forecast, so puffer vests and other cold weather essentials might be on the way out! That’s a good thing, because clearly I’m running out of ideas on what to wear.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever seen a color prettier than this shirt. Are you raising your hand? Put it down because you’re lying. Loft calls it “crisp seafoam” but I would call it “barely mint.” It sort of looks like it was a white shirt that got washed with a bright mint green shirt so it got just a tiny bit discolored. In case you’re wondering, NO, that is not what happened. I wash everything in cold water because I don’t trust myself to do any sort of household chores correctly.

I wore this on Tuesday night for a date at Cheesecake Factory. We really like going on dates outside the normal Friday and Saturday night. It’s good excuse to look a little special while still staying pretty comfy. The date was excellent. By the end of the night I was pregnant…with a food baby.

I never make any point to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s my way of telepathically daring anyone to pinch me. (Don’t. Even. Think about it.) But I did serendipitously wear mint green yesterday. I don’t know if that really counts, but no one tried any funny business either way.

And for your daily dose of freaky, how’s this: The day I decide to tie a scarf to my bag is the same day L’Wren Scott was found dead…apparently by hanging herself with a scarf. WEIRD. And sad…she was a fabulous, talented lady.
