It’s Thursday, May 8, 2014. What does that mean for you? Maybe nothing. But for me, it’s the day I’m taking my very last law school exam – I’M DONE!!!
And what better way to commemorate three overwhelming years than with two underwhelming outfits? Yup.
Both of these are outfits I wore to take exams, hence the pretty simple sweatshirt + jeans equation (that’s what regular kids wear to school…I think). Don’t worry; I’ll be back to my usual fabulousness soon enough. But first I have to wear a big black robe and a funny hat with a tassel. 🙂

Happy Friday! These are some photos from Sunday just after we got off the train from NJ. Keep in mind I spent Saturday bridesmaiding to the max in a floor length chiffon dress and lots of hairspray, so this outfit was the perfect antidote. I’m sure I looked super touristy in my t-shirt and Keds, gazing up at the tall buildings, but I don’t really care. Even though I’ve been to NYC 5 times, the first day still gets me every time! It’s just a special place.
We spent day one mostly just hanging out with friends and having great food and drinks. You can see both Kristin’s and my Instagrams from the trip under the hash tag #HarcutsDoNYC (Harcut is the name we made up by combining the first 3 letters of both of our real last names – it’s pronounced the same as “haircut” which is why we didn’t actually change our names to that when we got married).
More trip photos and tourist outfits will be up next week!

In case you spent the whole weekend at the pool (color me jealous) and you missed the big news, this week I am doing the Pin to Real Life style challenge! Never heard of it before? That’s because I invented it. You’re welcome.
The first outfit I recreated was based on a look from the ridiculously stylish Blair of Atlantic-Pacific. I pinned this look because (a) it’s adorable, and (b) I had all the ingredients to do a spot-on re-enactment. I skipped the hat though, because hats aren’t really my thing. I wore this over the weekend to go out for pizza with friends and take a short walk around Monument Circle in downtown Indy. I probably never would have mixed this dress, jacket, and shoe together if I hadn’t pinned Blair’s look, so that’s a win for the Pin to Real Life style challenge!
If you try your own Pin to Real Life look this week, don’t forget to mention me! Send me your link and I’ll post it here on SRL.

Indianapolis is a pretty special place to be on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Every year tens of thousands of people come here to see the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. It’s 200 laps totaling 500 miles, taken at speeds well over 150mph.
The drivers come from all over the world to participate in one of the most prestigious events on the IndyCar calendar. And you can’t blame them because the winner gets a pretty sweet cash prize, plus a free jug of milk. This year, Tony Kanaan from Brazil won the race. It was his 12th time in the race but his first win. Good job Tony!
So obviously, you can guess where I was yesterday…
…I was at the Indiana State Museum to see the Eternal James Dean exhibition.
What, you think I want to stand in line for hours, then cram into the bleachers with a bunch of drunk people and watch cars drive around in circles? Puh-lease.
So I decided to go with an equally Hoosier activity, but more classy. In case you were not aware, James Dean hails from Indiana. Incidentally, I learned from the exhibition that James was a big fan of the Indy 500 and car racing. Unfortunately, his passion for driving didn’t turn out too well, but we won’t dwell on that. Instead, how about this fun fact: James had some really random hobbies like conga-drumming and bull fighting.
Also, he was super hot. Honestly, I don’t know why you would want to look at pictures of me right now when you could go watch Rebel Without a Cause instead, but just in case, here’s what I wore. You can also see a couple more photos on Instagram.
But wait, there’s more…Adorable baby duck alert!

I read a lot of articles about blogging and how to be awesome at it and get a zillion followers. Over and over I read that you’re supposed to put searchable key words in your post titles, and to not use obscure puns. There’s just one problem: SEO (search engine optimization) is boring, and puns are not.
I’m sorry if you don’t watch HBO’s Girls and this title is lost on you, but if you’ve seen the first season, I hope it made you smile a little. And I hope you realize there is nothing else I could possibly title a post featuring Keds except “Where are you going in those Keds?” Such a beautiful ballad.
These Kate Spade Keds are pretty much the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me. I mean I did get married one time, and I got into law school. BUT that’s nothing compared to the time I procrastinated on buying adorable limited edition Kate Spade Keds from the Keds website, then the shoes sold out, then the shoes reappeared on the Nordstrom website, AND THEN I GOT THEM. Huzzah!
The bad news for the rest of you is that these particular shoes seem to have nearly sold out again. But because I don’t want to be a jerk for taunting you with something you can’t have, I did find:
- A pink pointy toe version in a couple sizes here
- A white and blue polka dot round toe version in lots of sizes here
- A blue gingham round toe version in lots of sizes here
- An orange chevron round toe version in lots of sizes here
Has anyone else scored a pair from the Keds for Kate Spade collection? I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot more of these babies.
