5 Things You Missed While You Were Out…

whileyouwereout

Welcome back to reality, everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday, surviving food comas and Black Friday stampedes. The little traffic ticker here at Sarah’s Real Life was slow going the last few days. But that makes me happy because it means my readers have their own real lives that were full of family fun and frivolity (and alliteration) over the long weekend.

So while you’re drinking your coffee and pretending to work on this post-holiday Monday, allow me to catch you up on what you might have missed:

{1} On Wednesday, I showed you an outfit that I had to admit was not quite right.

{2} On Thursday, I took the day off from blogging but shared plenty of photos on Instagram. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the very first time…did it turn out well? Only one way to find out.

{3} On Friday, I showed you my LAST Take One, Pass It On outfit and told you about a gift that gives back and how to get 10% off your purchase.

{4} On Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, I posted a few sale links for your shopping pleasure on the SRL Facebook page. Some of those sales are still going on, and I’ll keep posting any new ones I think sound promising!

{5} On Sunday, I posted the Week 4 Roundup of the Take One, Pass It On remix challenge. Be sure to check out some of the other bloggers linked at the bottom!

OK. All caught up? Good. There will be a new outfit post up later today! (You didn’t think I’d let you take another break, did you?)

I like it when an outfit makes me feel happy. This outfit makes me feel happy for several reasons:

1. It includes a dress with nautical stripes.

2. Those nautical stripes are mixed with a different yet harmonious print.

3. That print is on a scarf that Kristin picked out and got for me (it’s from the Phillip Lim collection but they didn’t have it at the first Target we tried).

4. Both said dress and scarf are super comfortable.

5. I’m carrying a yellow bag, which is always good.

6. Pink lips make me feel purdy (that’s Southern for pretty).

So there you go. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but money did buy all of these clothes. You do the math.

I Like Mashed Potatoes

Usually when I buy something new I immediately start imagining all the ways I’m going to wear it (it’s easier to justify the purchase that way). Then sometimes I have to admit that what I pictured in my head doesn’t quite work.

With this shirt, I pictured it tucked into some of my shorter skirts, but when I tried it out the other day it looked lumpy. Lumpy mashed potatoes? Delicious. Lumpy hips? Yucky. Mmmm…mashed potatoes sound good right now. Anywho.

I untucked the shirt, and that looked frumpy, which rhymes with lumpy and therefore is no good either. Finally I settled on this long skirt and belt and I felt rather tall and statuesque. That’s extra impressive when you’re 5’3″.

Happy Friday, and may your weekend be filled with laughter, friends, and mashed potatoes.

Festival Style

This Labor Day weekend, my lovely city of Indianapolis put on the inaugural White River Arts & Music Festival, aka WARMfest. Not that I have a lot of music festival experience for comparison, but I’m going to go ahead and say that WARMfest is the best one ever. I say that because (1) I’m biased because it’s my own city and (2) it really was fantastic.

If there are any WARMfest organizers reading, you guys did a great job! I can’t imagine how much work it was to find so many talented bands from all over the country – of so many genres – and get them all here for 3 days on 5 stages. Not to mention all the food trucks and local artisans and boutiques. I was very impressed…If I didn’t know this was the first year for the festival, I never would have guessed.

These photos are from Sunday. We were there from about 3:30 to 7:00, but it was a million degrees so 3.5 hours felt like a lot longer. Good day for a breezy dress and a Panama hat, right?

We went in knowing basically nothing about any of the groups, but it was kind of nice that way. No expectations means an open mind and some new favorite bands. Kristin’s favorite from Sunday was JD Wilkes and the Dirt Daubers (rockabilly) , and mine was Machines are People Too (poppy indie rock – if you like Neon Trees, you might like these guys too).

We had such a good time Sunday that we went back Monday night for the third and final day. Be sure to follow me on Bloglovin’ and check back tomorrow for more WARMfest. You can also see my photos on Instagram.
