OK, I promise this is the last vacation-related post for a while. But after complaining yesterday about how hard it is getting dressed for the real world, I felt like I should wrap up the week with one last glorious beach “outfit.”
I got these shorts just for the trip because I didn’t have any beach-appropriate shorts. I pretty much wore this all day, indoors and out. I know I don’t really have much to camouflage body-wise, but it’s just nice to not feel like I’m walking around naked while hanging out with my whole family. Plus I pretty much ate and drank whatever I wanted all of vacation, and these shorts were perfectly positioned so that I could remain blissfully unaware of any bloating or food babies. I know you know what I’m talking about.
Also, if you want a good giggle, take a look at the random patches of sunburn on the back of my right arm, top of my right thigh, and both ankles. It does not matter how hard I try to put sunscreen on every inch of my body every hour…it is physically impossible for me not to get sunburned. #palepeopleproblems

On most days during the past 3 weeks, “getting ready for the day” has consisted of a face wipe, a new layer of deodorant, and the same sweats I’d been in for the past 24 hours. This might negatively affect your opinion of me, but I’m just keepin’ it real.
Last weekend I decided to actually get ready for the day, and Kristin and I had a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I brought along my flash cards and book of practice questions and actually got some decent work done! It was a much needed break, even if it wasn’t really a break.
And in case you hadn’t heard, pineapples are the new lemons.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve seen a buttload of “festival style” features on blogs and on the interwebs in general recently. Spring time is Coachella fever time, apparently. As of last year, Indianapolis does have a music festival, but it’s in the fall, and it’s probably nothing like Coachella.
So when H&M asked me to style a “festival look” to support their H&M Loves Music campaign, I decided to put my own real-life spin on it. A spin that doesn’t involve frolicking around the desert with a bunch of millennials who are inexplicably dressed like they’re at Woodstock.
My version of a fun springtime excursion with sweet tunes? Having a picnic date on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art (with sangria, of course), with music playing from an iPhone. It was a pretty great weekend study break, and more importantly, a good excuse to wear a breezy dress and a cute hat.

“I don’t really like talking about my flare.”
Office Space fans? Anyone? It’s late and I can’t think of anything funny to say so I figured I’d just quote a funny movie. Jennifer Aniston was talking about “flair,” not “flare” but…close enough.
I practically forgot that flared jeans were even a thing, but according to bottom of my closet, they were. Even though skinny jeans seem to have taken over, I don’t think flares will ever really be outdated. And even if they are, we’ll just say they’re retro. Problem solved.

I hope some other 90s kids remember Carmen Sandiego and I hope this hat made the theme song get stuck in your head. You’re welcome.
I’m not usually much of a matchy matcher, but this hat and coat make such a statement I decided to kinda tie everything together by going burgundy with my jeans and lips, too.
Speaking of lips, for the past week or so I’ve been slathering mine with Enza’s Lip Treatment. It’s this stuff that’s made to boost collagen to plump up your lips and keep them nice and moisturized. Plus, my favorite part is that it goes on super smooth and it smells scrumptious! It’s clear, so you can put it over lipstick for a glossier look (which is what I’m doing here).
In honor of the upcoming kissing-and-other-mushy-stuff holiday, Enza is throwing an Instagram contest so you can win your very own lip treatment (a $30 value)! Here are the details…
How to Enter:
- Follow me (sarahsreallife) and Enza (enzaprgirl) on Instagram
- Instagram a selfie of your smoochy face – the cheesier the better (for my entertainment)
- Give it whatever caption you want, but end it with this jibberish: @sarahsreallife #EnzaEssentials #LoveMyLips
Be sure to enter by Valentine’s Day! Open to US residents only. Winner will be chosen randomly.
And if selfies aren’t your thing but luscious lips are, you can buy your own lip treatment – today (Feb. 6) ONLY, the lip treatment is on sale for $10.

A couple weeks ago when it was negative a million degrees, I assumed this “polar vortex” thing was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Apparently it is a twice-in-a-month occurrence. Awesome. The first time around, I was lucky enough to be able to stay safely inside. This time I actually have class and other things to do. In addition to what you can see above, I’m also wearing tights and socks under my pants. (Let me tell you: it makes a big difference!)
And because I’m amazing, I managed to pile on all these layers without wearing any black! That’s right, no polar vortex is going to stop me from completing my challenge. Who else is doing the Black Out challenge? Be sure to share your outfit photos on Twitter or Instagram and tag it #BlackOutStyle. Nicole and I will share the names (and links for bloggers) of participants at the end of the week!

Yes, you’ve seen all these things before. It’s the Real Life Remix…
This whole First Post Ever thing is rather intimidating! But we’ll just jump right in. I wore this yesterday to go to a cookout with friends. Since it was 90 degrees in the shade, there weren’t many options besides shorts and a t-shirt. Boring, right? Agreed. But these shorts have a cute little bow detail, and the wedges make me feel a little fancy (and tall, which is nice). Plus, have I mentioned how I love hats?! Of course not; this is my first post. Well let me go on record now as loving hats. The problem is that I look weird in most hats, so when I find one that looks good, I’m all over it. Then the next challenge is finding a hat occasion. There aren’t many. So thank you, Memorial Day!
