I’m far from a poetry buff, but I have loved Dorothy Parker since high school. I guess I’m just a sucker for intelligent, sarcastic women; they’re everything I strive to be. I’m also a sucker for Kate Spade, so when Kate first came out with a line of stuff featuring DP quotes, it was like winning the lottery. Except when you win the lottery, you get a bunch of free money, and Kate Spade is definitely not free. I couldn’t convince myself to spend my own money, but imagine my giddiness when many months later, my favorite wife surprised me with this bag for Christmas! She also got me a copy of The Portable Dorothy Parker (that I can carry around in my new bag! hooray!), which I highly recommend if you want to check out my girl DP. It’s all poems and short stories, so you can read a little or a lot at one time. Plus the cover is really cute.

Looking back at this outfit, it wasn’t my best work. I decided to remix the skirt into something more casual for school, and I was inspired by a look I pinned recently. But in the inspiration version, the skirt is shorter and not flared so I think it balances out the bulky sweater better. In my version, I think the full skirt and chunky knit are a little overwhelming on my frame. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
A pro blogger would probably just skip out on posting these photos, but I made a commitment to this Take One, Pass it On challenge, and I’m going to stick to it! The silver lining: my new pink bag is freaking adorable and makes up for everything. So this is actually the best outfit ever.

Every girl needs a bag that looks like a caterpillar, right? I’m sure I’ve heard that somewhere. Thank goodness I found one. OK, so it’s not exactly a staple, but it’s pretty fun, isn’t it? And it really does remind me of an American Dagger Moth Caterpillar. Don’t be too impressed. I Googled “fuzzy caterpillar” and looked at pictures until I found what I was picturing in my head. Most of what I know about caterpillars I learned from Alice and Wonderland. And from this bag.
Side note: In case you missed it, on Thursday I made an important announcement about an upcoming challenge/linkup. If you’re a fellow outfit blogger looking for something special to do with your posts next month, please consider joining in! Your blog link will be posted right here on SRL for tens of people to see.

On Monday, my fall break from school starts and I’m leaving on a jet plane to spend 5 days in sunny Florida! Even though fall has really set in here in Indiana, the forecast for my vacation is decidedly summery. Luckily, I haven’t put away my summer clothes yet, and I’m excited to take some of them for one last spin before they get put away for the season.
I don’t need to buy new summer clothes just for one week, so I’m exercising some self-control and settling for an imaginary shopping spree on JCrew.com instead. But I might mention to you all…most of these items are now on sale, and it never hurts to stock up for next year! So feel free to buy these things and send me pictures of yourself wearing them.
