I wore this on Sunday night to a Tony-watching party. I decided I kind of looked like a runaway bride who joined a motorcycle gang. But if you can’t play a character on Tony night, then when the hell can you? Right? Actually, a runaway bride who joins a motorcycle gang sounds like a pretty great plot for a musical. It could be called “Leather & Lace.” I would do the costumes and get all my loyal blog readers free tickets. You’re welcome in advance!

You guys, I felt super sassy in this outfit. I mean I’m always sassy on the inside, but I don’t always show it to the fullest on the outside. It was something about the mix of ultra girly things (floral dress and high ponytail) and ultra badass things (leather jacket and studded shoes). I’ve never been good at putting a label on my style, but when I think about it, the outfits that feel most “me” are ones that mix girliness and badassery. Who’s surprised by that? No one.

I’m happy to report the forecast is quite spring-like here in Indianapolis this week. This outfit is from last week, and I’m hoping it’s the last time you’ll see me in tights for quite awhile.

Today was a busy day so I don’t have time to write as much of my witty banter as usual, but let me take a moment to remind you of the 2 exciting things currently happening in this corner of the Interwebs: First, there’s the $100 H&M giftcard giveaway; you still have a week to enter! Second, there’s the Looking Lucky Style Challenge, which is just a little something to give you outfit inspiration this month (and maybe you’ll win some shopping money in the process).

Oh, and here’s a bonus third thing: In case you missed it yesterday, be sure to check out my budget report for March! It’s a doozie.

Back when I was working full time, I wore heels a lot during the day, so I always wore flats on the weekend to give my feet a break. For some reason I’ve been in a major heels mood recently, but I refuse to wear heels (besides boots) to school when I’m walking up and down stairs with a heavy bag. Just…no. Ouch.

So to get my fix, I’ll wear them on the weekend! Duh. I’m not sure why I don’t do this more often because it makes my jeans, tee, and leather jacket look pretty damn fancy. I wore this last Sunday to go out to lunch, then run a couple errands before returning to my dungeon of studying. I know it’s cheesy, but going out in the world for a couple hours to strut around in hot pink pumps really made my day.

On a side note, I love these sunglasses – the shape and color kind of make me think of the wings on a vintage car. And who doesn’t want an old car on their face?

Normal people go out and buy a new outfit for a special occasion like a wedding, a job interview, or…I don’t know…New Year’s Eve. But I am not normal people. I buy new outfits for random Tuesdays or for no reason at all, and I build a NYE outfit out of a bunch of old stuff. But hey, I already had this sequin dress, and how many opportunities will I have to wear it? I thought about getting some new sequins for NYE, but my worn-out, post-Christmas wallet looked at me pathetically and whispered “please…no.”

I guess I should thank my sad little wallet because I love this outfit! It was fun and the leather jacket was a good way to make the dress a little less fancy and more weather-appropriate. And in case you’re wondering, I celebrated responsibly, eating an amazing meal at The Northside Social, then having a couple drinks and playing board games with friends until midnight.

Today I’m en route to Florida for the holiday, and I’ll take a couple days off from blogging to enjoy Christmas in EPCOT. It’ll be my first time so I’m pretty excited. You can follow me on Instagram here to see all my adventures along the way!

For now, I’ll leave you with this outfit from a recent movie date. Pretty sexy date look, right? Showing ankles and everything. A hundred years ago I would have been quite the hussy. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, we saw Catching Fire. I’m one of the dozen people in the country who hasn’t read the books, but the movie was still good! Except there was one thing that bugged me. With all the crazy shit going on in her life, she could not POSSIBLY have time to put her hair in that fancy braid every day. Seriously.

Have a very merry Christmas, everyone! If you don’t celebrate Christmas, then just have a fantastic Wednesday.

You Can Never Have Too Much Black Leather!

The other day I was getting dressed and thought to myself, “this outfit would be perfect with my simple black wedges.” Then I realized I didn’t have  simple black wedges. I only had fancy scalloped suede wedges – not exactly your everyday, wear-to-school shoes. So that day I went out to look for some simple black wedges and found these at Nine West on my first try. They were on sale. Am I good or what? Go ahead and admit it: I’m the best shopper ever. Congratulations on knowing me.

I have Julia of Gal Meets Glam to thank for this outfit idea. No seriously…thank you, Julia. At this point I am out of ideas and just waiting for the day I get to unpack my summer clothes. Then you came along and wore an outfit made of things I already have and love! Easy peasy.

A lesson for all of us: No matter how awesome you are at dressing yourself – and I am pretty damn awesome – you can always get fun ideas from other equally awesome people. But I guess you guys already know that, because why else would you be following my blog? You guys are the smartest. Well done.

Let’s Go To the Mall…Today!

Another day, another Robin Scherbatsky reference.

jeansheels1 jeansheels2 jeansheels3 jeansheels4 jeansheels5 jeansheels6

I really love wearing heels with jeans, but I don’t get to do it much. I wear plenty of jeans on school days, when it would be silly and impractical to wear heels; and I wear plenty of heels on work days, when I’m not allowed to wear jeans. Sure, there are weekends, but I’m a big ol’ nerd who stays home studying on weekends. Except when I go to a fun little fashion show at the mall.

Now, normally I don’t wear heels to the mall, but a fashion show – even if it’s just at my local Macy’s – is the best excuse I have to sport a fun outfit like this. And if you didn’t get enough of an opportunity to drool over these shoes last time I wore them, consider this your second chance.

Oh my gosh, how did this photo get in here?! No big deal, just a shot of me and my buddy Nick Verreos. If you didn’t catch my interview with him last week, be sure to check it out here. He was a hoot!

Ikat Believe it’s Not Leather

My repeat item today is these gray and silver flats. I got them several years ago at Target. Considering they were probably about $25, I’m pretty satisfied with how long they’ve lasted.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I feel like Target went through a disappointing phase fashion-wise for a couple years. In college I got practically everything I owned from Target, and then between maybe 2009-2011 it seemed like their stock was just kind of blah. Everything started looking cheap and boring.

But boy has Target been proving me wrong recently. They’ve really stepped it up in every department and I’m back to wanting everything I see. You know when you really need some AA batteries, so you go to Target, and then $80 later you have new sunglasses, a cardigan, a dress, and a Sandra Bullock movie, and then you get home and you’re like, “Why doesn’t my remote work? Oh right. I need batteries. Better go to Target…”

I know you know what I’m talking about. That’s starting to happen again. It’s great…and it’s terrible. And speaking of Target…In case anyone’s wondering, I did hit up the Prabal Gurung collection over the weekend and grabbed a couple things. You’ll see them before too long!
