I’ll wait until the end of the month to do my big shopping roundup as usual, but I actually spent almost my entire budget on August 1. What can I say? I had just finished the Bar and I was ready to treat myself. I do a lot of online shopping, so it’s been awhile since I actually spent a day at the mall going from store to store trying things on. (It’s actually pretty fun. You should try it sometime. Sorry, Internet.)

But when I DO go on a big shopping excursion, I dress accordingly. Shoes that slip on and off easily; no jewelry that’s going to get caught in things; and preferably a dress like this one that zips so I don’t have to pull anything over my head and mess up my hair. OK, so the belt’s not that practical, but a girl has to accessorize, right? Right.

I Love Paisley in the Springtime, I Love Paisley in the Fall

Remember when I wore this dress over the summer and mentioned I couldn’t wait to restyle it for fall with socks and brown boots? I wasn’t just saying it because I like the sound of my own typing. When I add something new to my closet, I tend to make lots of future plans with it. The good thing about clothes is they tend not to make conflicting plans with other people.

And speaking of making future plans with your clothes, I hope you’re ready to join the Take One, Pass it On challenge link-up soon! I’m committing to the whole month of November, so you’ll see my first official post on Friday. You can do any portion of the month you want, and I’ll share the links at the end of each week. Jess of Here & Now has already started, so be sure to check her out if you need inspiration.

Hey there! How were everyone’s weekends? Mine was a pretty wild ride. Pretty much like one of the Hangover movies…if the Hangover movies were about a law student sitting at home in her pajamas writing and editing papers.

Wah wah. Let’s flash a little farther back to the weekend before last, when I went to the wedding of one of the top 2 hottest couples in the Midwest (I’ll give you 1 guess who the other couple is). Many congratulations to Annie and Fidel, who not only put on a hell of a show, but also gave me an excuse to wear this dress again. I got it over the summer and wore it with a cardigan to make it more work appropriate (see below), but this little number was clearly meant for something more special. Annie and Fidel are special. Fo sho.

Don’t you love it when you find something in your closet that you forgot you had? That’s what happened today with this necklace. It was hiding behind some big chunky things, poor little guy. I don’t even remember where I got it, but I like that it’s simple, yet still makes a statement. What kind of statement? I’m not exactly sure. Probably something like, “Hello. I am a necklace.” I don’t think jewelry is especially eloquent.

Anyway, about this little dress. As far as I can tell, it is a dress…which someone younger and with nicer legs might wear on its own. But I – being a professional student in my late twenties who hasn’t worked out in a while – always wear something under and/or over it.  In the summer, I’ve worn it with a crew neck t-shirt underneath, but for October this leggings and cardigan combo is working out quite nicely.

20120918-224432.jpgWith such a sassy outfit, I should have a sassy title for this blog post, right? Well, maybe I’m just tired, but I can’t think of anything that doesn’t have “meow” in the title. We all know I’m a cat lover, but that is too cheesy even for me.

So how about instead we skip the title, and just talk about how glad I am that I finally have a leopard (or cheetah…I’m not a zoologist) cardigan in my closet? I don’t know how survived so long without one.

Or we could talk about how much I love mint green and how I fully plan on wearing it forever, even if just in accessories.

See, so much to talk about! You’ve totally forgotten about the fact that I don’t have a catchy title, right? Good. That’s just purrfect. <–Had to do it.

Faux Leather; Genuine Badass

Sorry if I look a little windblown in these photos…I just got off my Harley. And when I say “Harley,” what I mean is “Nissan Sentra.”

A faux leather jacket was one of the items in my fall shopping list, and thanks to a sales alert from Penny Pincher Fashion, I scored this baby from Express for just $70, including shipping (regular price $118). I’ve always loved the look of a leather jacket over a girly dress, and now I’ve finally made it a reality.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go hang out with Danny Zuko and the other T-Birds.

3 Ways to Wear a Floral Sundress

Welcome to a new series that I like to call “How to Wear.” Actually, I don’t just like to call it that; I do call it that. Now that I’ve been posting my daily outfits consistently for a good chunk of time, I can look back and reminisce about the good ol’ days. You know, like 2 months ago. I’ve never liked repeating an outfit, but I do like wearing my favorite pieces in different ways. So let’s get to the good stuff and check out three ways I’ve styled this floral sundress.

1.  For a casual and functional traipsing-around-on-a-hellishly-hot-day ensemble (sorry, I’m not good at brevity): with a knotted belt, comfy sandals, a cross-body bag, and minimal jewelry

2.  For a night at the theater (said with a British accent because it’s cooler that way): with a statement necklace, wedges, and a summery bag20120824-193834.jpg

3.  For a summer wedding: with sparkles, nude pumps, and a sophisticated clutch

Black and Blue

20120823-114759.jpgJust a few quick pics of a simple (for me) ensemble I wore earlier this week. I didn’t actually have class this day – because I have the weirdest schedule ever this semester – but there were a couple workshops on campus that I wanted to go to, so I decided it was worth putting on clothes like a grown-up human being.

Oh, and I hope you’re not going to ask me how I tied this scarf, because I have no idea. I rolled it up a couple times, knotted it around my neck, and 6 hours later this is what it looked like.

Hair Apparent

Don’t worry, it’s still me. I’m just a little blonder and with more layers (in my hair, that is).

20120819-195213.jpgNormally I don’t like super-high wedges because they look and feel clunky and heavy. So imagine my excitement to find these babies  – they cut the clunk right out of them! I get to be 5’7″ (at least) and still walk like a normal upright human being. Still a bold shoe choice, of course, but for $15, a risk I will gladly take!

I wore this to get my herr did, and then on a date to the Melting Pot (celebrating my wife’s promotion). A glass of pinot noir and pots of melted cheese and chocolate? Good times.

Time Crunch

20120801-182656.jpg

20120801-182719.jpg

20120801-182742.jpg

20120801-182803.jpgI bought this dress a few weeks ago and hadn’t gotten around to wearing it until yesterday. It’s cute and quite flattering on its own, but I wanted to wear it to work with some kind of jacket or cardigan over it. Well. After staying up until midnight watching women’s gymnastics (yay USA! but sorry Russia…those girls looked so sad), I was sleepy and running late on Wednesday morning. I had grand plans to find something unique to pair with this dress, but I had approximately negative 7 mintues to figure it out, and I think the time crunch messed with my head. I didn’t like anything I tried on, so I fell back on my trusty white cardigan. The same thing happened with accessories…so I ended up with simple silver earrings and necklace, and my new white Anne Klein watch.

I was kinda meh about this outfit and disappointed with myself in the morning, but as the day went on, it kinda grew on me. I mean it might not be the greatest thing I’ve ever worn, but I can’t be awesome every day – OK, who am I kidding; I totally can.

So here’s the question: Do you keep changing until your outfit is perfect, no matter how late it makes you? Or do you come to your senses, tell yourself to stop being ridiculously vain, and get the hell out of the house?
