The way I see it, this shirt has built in air-conditioning. And that’s a good thing because electricity ain’t cheap, folks. Yep, that’s my real skin you’re seeing…I went a little risqué and wore only a nude-colored bra underneath because I was just going to my Bar review class and then studying in various coffee shops. But of course if I wanted to be more of a lady, I could wear something underneath and it would even work for an office. Because I will pass the Bar, and I will get a job. (I’m trying that whole positive outlook thing. We’ll see if it works.)

Also, I don’t know what it is about these shorts, but they make my legs look really long. I assure you it’s an optical illusion, but I’m not mad about it.

Happy last day of 2013, everyone! So I’ve been sharing my Florida vacation outfits with you the past few days, and I saved this, my favorite one, to end the year with a bang! This was what I wore for Christmas day at EPCOT with Kristin’s family. It was quite a challenge to find a look that felt festive, was appropriate for the weather (high in the 70s but chillier when the sun went down), and comfortable enough for a long day. I don’t mean to brag, but is this not the perfect Christmas at EPCOT outfit? I do believe it is. I mean I saw a lot of other Christmas at EPCOT outfits last week because there about a jillion other people there, and mine was the best. I saw some people in princess gowns – I mean seriously, can we say “overdressed”?

So what did everyone else do for Christmas? Anything special or out of the ordinary? EPCOT was fun, but I’m definitely looking forward to a more chill holiday next year. If you’re interested, you can see more of my vacation photos on Instagram!

Good news! I FINALLY got jean shorts. I am so hip now. It took me a while to find ones I liked because I’m very particular about not looking like a skank. Silly, I know. Maybe it’s my old age (28 as of yesterday, remember?) but I just don’t get the whole pockets-hanging-out-the-bottom-of-your-shorts look. It looks like your shorts shrank, but the pockets were made of some special fabric that didn’t shrink. Or like you have 10 rolls of quarters in each pocket weighing them down. Or like you were cutting your old jeans into shorts but you measured wrong and then your house caught on fire but you weren’t wearing any pants so you just had to put the shorts on and run outside and then your house burned down and destroyed all your other proper shorts so now you have no other choice than to wear your embarrassing mistake until the insurance check comes through.

Anywho, the point is: I didn’t want what I call “denim underwear” and I didn’t want mom shorts, so I was happy to find these “boyfriend shorts.” They are actually pretty long but since they’re not too tight, it’s easy to roll them up to a length that I like. Which you may notice is far below the bottom of the pockets.

Over the River and Through the Woods

park1 park2 park3 park4 park5 park6

I wore this outfit more than a week ago when my family was in town, but the day was so busy I never got around to taking photos. So this past Sunday afternoon when we went for a stroll through River Road Park, I threw the look back together to take les photos. Side note: it was much cooler when I originally wore this, so the jacket didn’t last long the second time around.

Now. Are you ready for your random Sarah fact of the day? Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been strangely good at finding four-leaf clovers. I used to spot them while I was walking, without even stopping to look. Yep, I’ve always been a freak. I did actually stop and look this time, but I probably found this little guy in under 2 minutes. Lucky me!

Black & White (plus a dash of neon)

I know black and white is supposed to be a big trend these days (I read that on the interwebs), and I tried my best, but I’m simply incapable of not wearing any color. This is probably the closest I’ll ever get. But you have to admit – the belt totally makes the outfit, right? Agreed. You guys totally get me.

Bits & Pieces

Happy weekend, folks! I’m really excited because my family is visiting for 3 days and I’m ready to show them a good time. You can follow along with our adventures on Instagram. Because if you don’t Instagram it, it didn’t happen.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a handful of outfits – some recent, some older – that I didn’t get around to posting. What is everyone else up to this weekend?!

Yesterday after work we went on a double date downtown. Dinner at Creation Cafe (sangria – check) followed by a walk along the canal (baby ducks – check). Have I mentioned that summer in Indy is the best?

Also, do you see how there’s a little pocket on the front of this shirt? Well for the first hour or so of the evening the pocket was on the back. Picking out my clothes is easy; it’s the putting them on part that I have trouble with sometimes (functioning as an adult – not quite check).

Stripes & Sandals

I don’t know about you guys, but I had a pretty fun weekend. It ended with a trip to the suburbs to see my other half perform in a community theater cabaret. It’s quite convenient being married to a talented person. I’m always entertained.

Besides the overall casual theater-going chicness of this outfit, I’d like to draw your attention to the cute little blue bands in my hair and on my wrist. They came to me via 6 Degrees Hair Ties! Ever since I threw away my last scrunchie, I’ve been looking for something cute to put around my ponytails. OK, to be honest I haven’t thought much about it, but now that I have these babies I love them!

I was a little worried that the elastic wouldn’t be strong enough to hold my hair, but I was pleasantly surprised. My hair is very thick, so if I do a high ponytail I might have to use a regular ponytail elastic underneath to be totally secure, but for this low side pony I didn’t need anything extra.

And if you’re the type to keep a hair tie on your wrist, these are way cuter than plain old hair-colored bands. Check out the 6 Degrees website to see all the colors and patterns. Besides the pack I got, I’m a big fan of the chevron print! You can get 10% off your order with the code SARAH10.

Brights & Beige

Hello friends and frenemies! Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far. Hitting up some Memorial Day sales perhaps? I thought so. Good for you. You deserve it. Even if I don’t know you…I’m sure you deserve it. If you need someone to tell you where the sales are, be sure to follow me on Facebook or Twitter, where I post sale links and promo codes on a regular basis. More importantly, I share other random anecdotes and pictures of stuff. That really wasn’t very convincing but I tried my best.

I thought I’d share this outfit with you today because a neutral cotton dress with healthy doses of pink and yellow will get you through tomorrow whether you’re at work or on a day off. I have the day off but I will probably spend it in my PJs. Not even mad about it.

90s Flashback

flashback1 flashback2 flashback3 flashback4 flashback5 flashback6 flashback7

I just got this windbreaker-esque jacket on the clearance rack at H&M for $10. Did I need it? No. But did it give me a flashback to 4th grade when I sported a black and white Reebok windbreaker suit? Yes. Don’t act like you didn’t have one too. They were so cool in the mid-90s. I really wanted to wear this with a smiley face t-shirt and some peace sign earrings, but alas those things left my closet a long time ago. The best I could do was a side ponytail.

For the full effect, may I recommend rereading this post while listening to one or more of the following songs:

  • Gangsta’s Paradise, Coolio
  • Waterfalls, TLC
  • All I Wanna Do, Sheryl Crow
  • The Sign, Ace of Base
  • Always Be My Baby, Mariah Carey
  • Kiss From a Rose, Seal

What’s your favorite mid-90s song/band? Let me know in the comments (and you can say something about my outfit if the mood strikes you).
