It has been a very silver white winter, and it needs to MELT INTO F$%&ING SPRING ALREADY. I knew it was coming, but waking up to cold and snow yesterday was still so hard after 2 days in a row of 60+ degrees. And it wasn’t just snow – it was huge flakes of really wet snow. And it was windy. So walking outside was kind of like being in a snowball fight with Buddy the Elf. It’s mid-March. #snoverit

Even though the weather was totally inappropriate, at least this top kinda looks like it has cute little snowflakes on it. I do love a theme. But this top is still SUPPOSED to be for SPRING. I want to wear it on its own with a floral pencil skirt and nude pumps. One day soon…

I got this jacket in January as part of a suit and I wore it for the first day of my new internship (pictured below, far right). But as long as I’m only dressing business casual once a week, I might as well make my new “workwear” double as “studentwear.” Turns out Lucky Magazine wasn’t lying to us…you really can break up your suits and wear the blazer with jeans. But when Vogue said you could wear a feather headdress and a $2000 mesh top with no bra, it was definitely lying. (Anna Wintour, if you’re reading this, I’m totally kidding. You’re a genius. Please give me a job. Love, Sarah.)

This outfit took me like 12 tries to get right. You’d think after all that trouble I would have come up with something better. Nope, just this sweater, skirt, and boots, all of which I’ve worn before (see below) but never together. I actually started out with sweater 1 and skirt 1 but didn’t like them together so I switched to skirt 2 with sweater 1, then sweater 2 with skirt 2 and it just kept going on like that for a while until I got tired and thought “well, sweater 17 and skirt 12 don’t look so bad…let’s go with this.”

As the old saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again until you come up with something at least mediocre. (In case you can’t tell, I’m totally fishing for compliments at this point. So go ahead and tell me how great I look and to stop being so modest.)

It’s only about once a year that I bust out this little “capelet” thing. “Capelet” is the best suggestion I’ve had for what exactly to call it. It’s more than a scarf but less than a sweater. It’s sort of like a cape, but there are no arm holes. I wouldn’t quite call it outerwear, but I wouldn’t call it underwear either. WHAT ARE YOU, LITTLE KNIT THING?! Maybe its mystique is part of why I’ve kept it around for 5+ years.

Despite its awkward identity crisis, this little guy actually came in handy over the weekend. I wore this outfit on Saturday, which was a busy day spent in several different places with different temperatures. This sweater isn’t very warm – but I just loved the color with my tan boots – so when I was in a well-heated space, I could take the capelet off and be comfortable. But in chilly restaurants (I went to 2 of them), I kept it on to stay toasty. And when I went outside, I just adjusted it up and forward (wearing it more like an infinity scarf) so I could fit a coat on top. Well done, strange garment, well done.

Oh hey! Don’t forget about the latest giveaway (and the fabulous outfit that went with it)!

I don’t even remember the last time I wore anything besides boots. Somebody scroll back through the archives until you find it and then let me know. And then I’ll make fun of you for wasting so much of your time.

I’m willing to make a few sacrifices to my comfort for the sake of fashion, but a blister is one thing. Amputating a frostbitten foot is quite another. So boots it is.

Naturally, the best way to keep from being totally bored with wearing boots is to buy more boots. If you read my post yesterday, you know I’m trying to be better about my spending habits. But I’ll have you know I snagged these babies for just $40! So hold your judgment. Or don’t. It doesn’t matter…they were final sale and I already wore them.

My sixth and final semester of law school has officially begun, and this is what I wore for my first day back. I had the genius idea to sign up for an 8:30am class on Mondays, and with the Golden Globes the night before, well…let’s just say I didn’t wear the hat solely for the fashion statement. Sarah’s hair be greasy!

Clearly I’m not very good at following the “take one thing off before you leave the house” rule, because not only did I add a hat, I also added this scarf. For some reason I felt like the royal blue boots just came out of nowhere and I wanted something to tie the look together. There’s a little bit of royal blue in the scarf so that made me feel better. And speaking of these royal blue boots, aren’t they amazing?! The correct answer is yes.

See something you recognize? I mean besides me. Yep, it’s those boots I couldn’t stop blabbering about yesterday. I did indeed wear them 2 days in a row. This time it was for a fun karaoke night. I love karaoke, you guys. I mean, I don’t sing or anything, but I am so good at drinking and judging people. Hang on…before you tell me I’m a horrible person, let me just say: don’t bother; I already know.

While I have your attention, I gotta tell you wardrobe-challenge-lovers about the January Black Out Challenge. The goal is to NOT wear any black – with just a couple exceptions – during this cold and dreary month when we all stop caring about life or color. Don’t get too impressed that I came up with yet another genius idea, because this one wasn’t me! It’s the brain child of Nicole, and she’s the official challenge host over on her blog, VV Boutique Style. She already started the challenge, and I’ll join her to co-host for the last 2 weeks of the month. You do NOT have to be a blogger to participate, and everyone who tries the challenge for at least a week will be entered in a giveaway, plus both Nicole and I will do weekly roundups! You can get alllll the details here. I think it’s a really fun idea so I’m happy to help spread her idea to more people! Join in, or I will judge you like a bad karaoke singer.

After spending three solid days inside studying, I finally ventured out on Monday to “study abroad” (a.k.a. at Starbucks) and to take my car in for a tune up. Because if there’s any day my car would decide to die or get a flat tire, it would be on my way to an exam. That’s how the world works.

Anyway, after I got dressed I remembered that usually when I go a mechanic, I like to wear something that says “don’t take advantage of me just because I’m a girl.” Normally that just means I wear a law school t-shirt (the subliminal message is “I’m smart and I’ll sue your ass”). But since I was already dressed, I decided to just add these badass studded boots. Because everyone knows mechanics pay a lot of attention to women’s shoes.

Remember when I wore this dress over the summer and mentioned I couldn’t wait to restyle it for fall with socks and brown boots? I wasn’t just saying it because I like the sound of my own typing. When I add something new to my closet, I tend to make lots of future plans with it. The good thing about clothes is they tend not to make conflicting plans with other people.

And speaking of making future plans with your clothes, I hope you’re ready to join the Take One, Pass it On challenge link-up soon! I’m committing to the whole month of November, so you’ll see my first official post on Friday. You can do any portion of the month you want, and I’ll share the links at the end of each week. Jess of Here & Now has already started, so be sure to check her out if you need inspiration.

My Week in Over-Processed Photos

Happy weekend, everyone! I’ve gotten quite a few new followers this week, so if you’re one of them, welcome. Today’s post is a feature I started a couple weeks ago. It’s where I take a few photos from my real life over the past week, and then I add cool effects so that my life seems more interesting. It’s quite the ego boost; I recommend it.

Counting down the minutes til the weekend Friday at work, A delicious pineapple and green pepper pizza that I MADE (recipe below), Teaching my friends’ kid Gabby how to pose for outfit photos, A gift from the UPS man: the boots I ordered!

For anyone who wants the pizza recipe, read on…

First of all, don’t expect recipes to be a regular thing. I am pretty much the opposite of a house wife and cooking is not at all my specialty. But when I do discover that I’m pretty good at making something (and it’s easy), then I get pretty excited and want to share.

I’m especially proud of this pizza because I started with a recipe from a cookbook and then added additional ingredients on my own, which I’m pretty sure makes me a culinary genius. So here’s what you need:

  • Pre-made pizza crust (I’ve tried several brands and they all worked fine)
  • Pizza or pasta sauce
  • Small can of crushed pineapple (drain out the juice as best you can)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh green pepper, sliced whatever size you like
  • Olive oil
  • Oregano
  • Parmesan cheese (like the kind in the green shaker)

I listed the ingredients in the order that you use them. Take your crust, spread the sauce, layer bits of pineapple, then mozzarella, then green pepper. Drizzle a couple spoonfuls of olive oil, then shake  on the oregano.

Just follow the directions on the pizza crust package for the temperature and time, although mine usually takes longer than they say. I set a timer for 10 minutes and then keep checking until the cheese starts to get slightly browned.

After it’s cooled a little, sprinkle parmesan on top. Delicious! The leftovers aren’t bad either.
